Opens and rated tournaments 7

This list keeps the named opens of the area that come back with numbered editions. The grenke Chess Open is played in the Schwarzwaldhalle of the Karlsruhe congress centre, in 2026 from 2 to 6 April, with the grenke Freestyle Chess Open beside it. The Untergrombach Open, rated by FIDE, fills the first days of January in the Bundschuh-Halle, the Sulzfelder Open is a long May weekend in the Kraichgau with its edition of 2027 dated 6 to 9 May, and Bad Herrenalb hosts the open seniors’ championship of Baden-Württemberg over nine classical rounds in early summer.

Young players have the Joß-Fritz-Jugendopen in Untergrombach in late September, the Karlsruher Jugendopen in July, played in Rheinstetten, and the Ettlinger Jugendopen, a rapid tournament in the Stadthalle. Clubs hold opens of their own as well, among them the carnival and autumn opens of the Schachzentrum Baden-Baden; those stay on the club’s entry.
