Most clubs on this list train children and teenagers in the late afternoon, before the adults sit down. In Karlsruhe the Schachfreunde Neureut 1953 teach beginners on Friday afternoons in the Badnerlandhalle with the advanced group after them, the Karlsruher Schachfreunde 1853 train their youth on Tuesdays at the Anne-Frank-Haus, the TSV Bulach has a Thursday evening for young players and the Schachclub uBu offers free training for children. The Schachschule Karlsruhe adds courses for school children from seven.

In the county towns the Schachclub Bretten trains four ability groups on Saturday mornings in term time, the Schachklub 1926 Ettlingen and the Schachclub Untergrombach on Friday afternoons, the Schachclub Rastatt on Wednesdays, and the SV Vimbuch starts with beginners from five. Two tournaments sit here as well: the Karlsruher Jugendopen, played in Rheinstetten, and the Ettlinger Jugendopen in the Stadthalle.
